BALTIMORE, MD (Wednesday, September 30th, 2020) — The Metropolitan Baltimore Council of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) is endorsing Brandon Scott for Mayor. The Metro Baltimore Council is one of Maryland’s largest and most politically active unions, representing over 150,000 workers across the Baltimore region. “I’m honored to have the support of the AFL-CIO in the general election as we continue to grow our coalition for a new way forward for Baltimore. Together, with the support of the hardworking men and women of labor, I know we can push our city to new heights,” said Scott.
“Over his career, Brandon Scott has shown that he will fight for working families and the dignity, respect, and honest pay they deserve,” said Jermaine A. Jones, President of the Metropolitan Baltimore Council of the AFL-CIO. “We proudly support him and his vision for a new way forward.” Brandon has been endorsed by a host of unions and progressive organizations, including 1199 SEIU, 32BJ SEIU, 500 SEIU, UNITE HERE! Local 7, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 27, Baltimore Teachers Union, Mid-Atlantic Laborers International Union of North America, Building Trades, Amalgamated Transit Union, Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, IUPAT DC 51, Jews United for Justice Campaign Fund, and People for the American Way's Next Up Victory Fund. He was also endorsed in the primary election by The Baltimore Sun. Brandon Scott is the Democratic nominee for Mayor and serves as Baltimore City Council President. Prior to May 2019, he represented District 2 as a councilmember. He is a lifelong Baltimorean who lives in Baltimore’s Frankford neighborhood.
